After 3 suicides in lover’s family, UP teen girl who eloped returns

MEERUT: The 18-year-old girl whose “abduction” by a youth was followed by alleged police harassment of the accused’s family, leading to his mother and two sisters killing themselves, surfaced in Haridwar on Thursday and told a court later in Baghpat that she went with the man on her own and “out of love”, and that they are now married.
The couple surfaced nine days after the tragic incident at a hotel in Haridwar.The court, meanwhile, ordered protection for the duo and asked cops to ensure their “free movement”. SSP of Baghpat Neeraj Jadaun said he will not file a charge sheet in the abduction case filed by the girl’s kin as it “holds no ground”.
“We have recorded the statement of the girl, Komal Singh, and her husband, Prince Singh, in court. They had been quietly staying in Haridwar all this while. She is an adult and hence the court has allowed them free movement. We are ensuring that they are provided proper protection,” the SSP said.
